Northern Ireland had exceeded all expectations in the World Cup, beating the hosts and reaching the 2nd stage, they also went on to beat West Germany in a Euro’s qualifier in November and held both England and Scotland to goalless draws in this year’s Home Internationals but let themselves down in the final match at home to Wales.

Bingham believes that players & supporters treat the Home Internationals as a “nothing tournament” when it is held at the end of the season.
