04th November – Today In Our Footballing History

04/11/1933 Belfast Wales 1-1 Sam Jones

Elisha Scott, Sidney Reid, Bertie Fulton, Billy Mitchell, Jack Jones, Sam Jones, Eddie Mitchell, Alec Stevenson, David Martin, Jackie Coulter, Jimmy Kelly

Billy Mitchell lined out for Ireland alongside his brother in-law and Distillery teammate Sam Jones. Football was in the Jones’ family blood; his mother was sister of the Burnison brothers (two Irish internationals, a Junior international and an Inter-League representative). Not only that Sam’s older brother Jack also played in this match making it a true family affair! Sadly Eddie Mitchell who was also in the Irish side was unrelated to Billy and the Jones brothers!
