Alan Gilzean put Scotland ahead on 17, Derek Dougan equalised on 42, John Crossan put the Irish ahead on 60, Gilzean pulled it back to 2-2 on 82, Willie Irvine won it for Northern Ireland with a late goal on 89. This was the last international appearance for Scotland’s Dave Mackay.

“The minutes had been ticking away at Windsor and with the scores level at 2-2, I smacked home the winner. I’ll never forget it. The whole place went daft! My only regret is is that there weren’t video recorders in those days. I’d love to see that match and that goal. And I’d love to show it to my three sons.”
