“The President of the St. Kitts & Nevis Football Federation, Peter Jenkins is extremely excited about the tour and the benefits to his country’s preparation and profile. Northern Ireland is the first European country to play international friendlies in the Caribbean region since Finland did so at the beginning of 2003.”
Northern Ireland defeated St Kitts & Nevis 2-0 after two late goals from David Healy and Steve Jones. Northern Ireland started well but the first real opportunity fell to Ian Lake who sent his shot wide. Northern Ireland finished the first half the stronger of the two teams but with nothing to show on the scoresheet.
Keith Gillespie had a goal disallowed on 72 minutes for offside but then came the two late strikes, firstly David Healy on 81 minutes after coming on nine minutes before. Then the win was secured by Steve Jones on 86 minutes after a cross from Healy.
