Chris Nicholl put the home side ahead on 44 following a half cleared corner, Gerry Armstrong made it 2-0 on 81. England manager Ron Greenwood was at the game to watch the group rivals and said of Bulgaria; “I don’t think they can play as badly as that ever again.”
